These ingredients are indispensable on your springtime table

With everyone planning spring events, we asked our top chef, Gordon Fraser, what ingredients are a must-have on a spring table.

According to chef Gordon, spring calls for dishes that are brimming with flavour, and these ingredients will help you to achieve just that.

Sun-dried tomato

Chockful of lycopene, antioxidants and vitamin C, sun-dried tomatoes are a winner in pasta dishes, salads and for use in pastes and purées.

Freshly baked ciabatta

Ciabatta is a great accompaniment to a variety of dishes. Having guests really get involved with a meal makes for an interactive and social dining experience, and buffets with freshly baked ciabatta are key.

Olive oil

Long hailed for its health benefits, olive oil should be a staple in all kitchens, whatever the season. Olive oil is especially popular in Mediterranean dishes, and who wouldn’t want to escape to Greece or Italy through cuisine?

Yoghurt marinade

Perfect with lamb or chicken, a yoghurt marinade gives your dishes flavour without drying the meat out. It is popular in Eastern dishes to counter their spicyness.

Gone are winter’s rich stews. Chicken is light and versatile, also tying in perfectly with cold spring dishes like salads.

Spring calls for a reawakening, and incorporating and experimenting with new ingredients in your cooking also awakens a renaissance for your taste buds.
