The excitement is building up and the box office is selling fast as South African music legends gear up for the most anticipated, once-in-a-lifetime A Night With Legends showdown set to take place at the Gallagher Convention Centre on October 1
The event will honour the pioneers of kwaito music, both living and late, who have contributed to the socio-economic development of their communities.
These icons will be celebrated for their contribution in an awards ceremony on the night and music lovers will enjoy a medley of their favourite tunes as they trip down memory lane.
The affair will be hosted by the popular and much-loved Thabo “Tbo Touch” Molefe, with star-studded features from local artists such as Kabelo Mabalane, Ishmael Morabe, Oskido, Arthur Mafokate, Mdu Masilela and Thebe, who will reunite for an old-school extravaganza.
Guests will be treated to a host of surprise acts from the past.
The brains behind A Night With Legends, Arthur Mafokate, says the event was inspired by the immense contribution made by these artists to the popular culture of South African music.
“We are excited to be able to contribute towards social cohesion and job creation while we bring people together for a fun and celebratory moment. This event is one of many to come, and we deliberately kick-started it with kwaito legends on the stage, but it is by no means meant to be a kwaito music event.
“It is bigger than this, as it is about South Africa and its people. We are setting the bar as high as possible, because we know what kwaito has done for the entertainment sector.
“In years to come we will aim to maintain the standard and contribute more towards the growth of the country’s economy through entertainment while we also give back to our communities. This will come through as we announce our honoraries who range from sports legends to community leaders,” Mafokate said.
He said guests could expect a concert of international standards.
“We have sought to do something different for South Africa. When we developed the concept ‘A Night with Legends’ we had one thing in mind – and that was celebrating and honouring our legends.
“We did not want to stage a concert, for pure entertainment only, but we wanted to create an experience of a lifetime. This will come across through the world-class production of this event.
“From stage, choreography, through to technical and presentation of the event, patrons are in for a treat. All music lovers, entrepreneurs, philanthropists and the general public attending this event will be exposed to greatness in terms of networking opportunities, entertainment, kasi cuisines with a twist and, above everything else, a great chill-out time.”
