JOHANNESBURG – As Public Protector Thuli Madonsela serves her last month in office, political parties have described her as a fierce ambassador of the law, a strong woman and a pillar of South Africa’s democracy.
Various political leaders gathered at the Gallagher Convention Centre last night, to thank Madonsela for the seven years she served in office.
Gauteng Premier David Makhura started off by thanking the advocate for never forgetting how important her role is and holding government accountable.
“I must also say thank you for saving us from ourselves.”
African National Congress Secretary-General Gwede Mantashe says the next Public Protector has big shoes to fill.
“Let me tell you one thing I discovered today, we are debating in the ANC about having a woman president. I’ve discovered this woman president we’ve been talking about is yourself.”
United Democratic Movement leader Bantu Holomisa wished her all the best.
“She has done exceptionally well in performing her duties.”
Dali Mpofu, national chairperson of the Economic Freedom Fighters, says that Madonsela has displayed great leadership abilities while John Mulder, on behalf of the Democratic Alliance, praised her for remaining “dignified” and “humble” throughout her term.
Madonsela says she will continue to work for the people of South Africa to reap the fruits of democracy.
