Outgoing public protector Thuli Madonsela turned heads in a gold number at her farewell at Gallagher Convention Centre on Wednesday night.
Thuli wore a gold beaded and embellished GJC gown with a flowing attached cape at her farewell.
A representative from each political party paid tribute to her and she was finally introduced by her son, Wantu Madonsela in a moving speech, where he recounted how his mother played chess with him every day while he was growing up.
“We wanted Adv Madonsela’s final official gown to reflect the combination of regal dignity and down-to-earth glamour that she brought to the public protector’s office,” says Coetzee’s publicist Melinda Shaw, explaining the designer’s choice of colour and fabric.
Madonsela’s busy schedule in her final days in office meant that she only saw the gown the day before the dinner, leaving it completely in Coetzee’s hands.
“It has been an incredible honour to play a role in helping our beloved PP look like the queen that she is on her special occasions,” says Coetzee. The designer himself is on business in New York and was unable to attend the gala.
